COVID-19 Update: November 18, 2022

A Slight Increase in Cases

After a continuous steady decline since late July, virus transmission has increased slightly in Santa Barbara County, according to the Santa Barbara County community data dashboard.

Over the past seven days, the weekly average of PCR-confirmed cases has increased by 4.1%. BA.5 is still the dominant strain in California and across the nation, but in recent weeks, variants BQ.1 and BQ1.1 have also been detected at increasing rates.

Despite the increase, community levels remain low according to CDC definitions and hospitalizations have continued to decrease.

There was one death reported in the county in the past week and thirteen in the past month.

With increased travel and close contact almost guaranteed in the coming weeks, transmission is much more likely. The Resource would like to remind everyone to continue to be vigilant with COVID-19 safety, so we can all have a happy and healthy holiday season.
