Joanne Meade Young has dedicated her life to improving the lives of children through her various roles in education.

Before serving as the principal of four different elementary schools, JoAnne began her journey in education as a school teacher with positions including Primary Language Development Specialist, Library Media Specialist, Instructional Consultant, Director of the Goleta State Preschool and Principal.

JoAnne currently serves on the board of the Democratic Women of Santa Barbara County as Treasurer and Co-Chair of Membership. She also serves on the Commission for Women representing District 2 and was elected to the Democratic Central Committee as a District 2 representative. Joanne was a founding member of the Dr. Martin Luther Kings Jr. Committee and served on the board of the Family Services Agency.

She has lived in Santa Barbara for 34 years and has been married to her partner Michael for 47. Outside of her service to the community, JoAnne enjoys ceramics, designing and making earrings, and gardening.
