The Seeds of Real Change in Santa Barbara County

A Visionary, Local Project Helping Working Families Needs Your Help

Santa Barbara County is home to an extraordinary project that is working to change the landscape of poverty and hunger here and across the country and, with it, we have a unique opportunity to get involved and make a difference—for our neighbors, our communities, and ourselves.

Founded in North County’s Los Alamos by The Los Alamos Foundation, Summer in the Park provides free daytime care for all the town’s children while creating jobs and opportunity for local students and under-resourced parents. Summer in the Park hopes to return on June 15th, but we will need your help to get there. So far we have raised $13,000 of our goal of $35,000.

Over one third of residents in Los Alamos live with food insecurity, and last years Summer in the Park program served over 50 families and 160 children, creating 18 jobs for local students and providing 4,800 healthy meals.

Summer in the Park is replicable across the country. It’s innovative model meets critical needs while creating jobs, providing durable change for the entire community. Having experienced the care and support of their community, kids return as counselors to help mentor the next generation, creating a positive, self-reinforcing cycle— and so far, every counselor at Summer in the Park has gone on to a college career. Watch below to learn more about the program.

Let’s sow the seeds of enduring change in Santa Barbara County and beyond. For more information and to get involved, visit www.summerinthepark2022.com
