Self Defense Starts at Prevention

DFWM Safety with Dr. Teri Jory

This Sexual Assault Awareness month, Dr. Teri Jory discusses safety and prevention tips to help others better prepare and protect themselves in the world.

As a 4th degree black belt, Teri started DFWM (Don’t F* With Me) Self-Defense and teaches classes to help empower you no matter where life takes you.

The four principles of self-defense are to prevent, yell, escape and survive.

“If you feel threatened, you don’t need to be nice, polite, or quiet.” - Dr. Teri Jory

Prevention is the Best Self-Defense

Self-Defense isn’t all about being physical, it starts with prevention. Being aware of your surroundings and letting friends know where you are going when heading out. Keeping your phone charged and trusting your instincts in scary situations.

If you sense something is wrong, don’t be afraid to YELL AND BE LOUD! Get in their face and show you are not an easy target.

If they grab you, do whatever is necessary to ESCAPE. Kick, stomp, bite, poke their eyes out. Remember your power even if they are bigger than you.
