  • Is there some way the evicted Isla Vista tenants can stay housed? Over 500 tenants in Isla Vista at the CBC and The Sweeps Apartments received notices of eviction, giving residents 60 days to find new homes. The CBC and The Sweeps were recently purchased by Chicago-based developer, Core Spaces.

  • Was this a good faith effort on the part of the new owner? Core Spaces states that the evictions are necessary in order to make renovations to the buildings. This common practice where a developer will purchase a property, renovate it, and drastically increase the rent may not be morally suitable for our neighbors, but is it legal?
