Marian Shapiro - Congressional Woman of the Year

The Resource is honored to congratulate Marian Shapiro for earning this year’s Congressional Woman of the Year Award. At a ceremony surrounded by friends and family, Congressman Salud Carbajal and Vice Presidents of Democratic Women of Santa Barbara - Claudette Roehrig and Laura Capps - awarded Marian after selecting her from over 100 nominees.

Marian is a treasure in the Santa Barbara community and is proudly involved in many progressive groups across the county. She was born and grew up in Berkeley, California. Marian married Marty Shapiro 55 years ago, is a mother of two, and grandmother to two grandsons. Marian attributes her dedication to activism to her refugee parents who inspired her work to protect civil rights, reproductive rights, gay rights, women’s rights, health care for all, environmental protection, and economic justice. In retirement, Marian found a new career and passion in ceramics and photography.
