Cases Continue to Increase in the County

As we approach Memorial Weekend and cases continue to trend upwards in the county, it is important to continue practicing COVID-19 vigilance to keep yourself and others safe and healthy.

Santa Barbara County Public Health reported 85 new cases and 1,052 active cases on May 24th. Hospitalizations have increased from the previous week from 15 to 23.

Public Health advises that everyone be extra vigilant in order to prevent the spread on this busy weekend.

“As Memorial Day Weekend approaches, and the chances of getting and spreading COVID-19 increases, it is essential to be up to date on vaccines and wear a mask in high risk settings to protect you and your family.”

Testing and Treatment

Two Test-to-Treat locations are opening in Santa Barbara County. Services are free to all, with or without insurance and provide testing and if necessary, antiviral pills to treat the virus.

There will be one location in Santa Maria, at 937 Thornburg St., and one in Goleta, at 6100 Wallace Becknell Rd. To be eligible, patients must have an increased risk of developing severe symptoms and be over the age of 12, according to Public Health.

Vaccines

In the county, 68.9% percent of eligible citizens have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with 824,724 does administered and 81% have received at least one dose.
