COVID-19 Update: May 11, 2022

Cases Double

According to Santa Barbara County Public Health, there are 114 new cases and 595 active cases on 5/11. Cases are up 54% from the two week average of 74. Active cases are also up 38% from the two week average of 43.

Last month on April 11th, there were only 15 new cases and 226 active cases. Though it is nowhere near the winter surge, cases are still on the rise. Test positivity has also increased and is sitting at 4.1%.

Fourteen people are currently being treated for COVID-19 at local hospitals.

Courthouse Reopens

Following the trend of reopening happening throughout the county, the Santa Barbara historic courthouse will open again to the public next week.

The courthouse has been closed for two years and after weeks of deliberation and planning, the building will reopen for tourism and events on Monday.

Vaccines

Public Health reports that they have administered 816,635 doses of the vaccine in the county. Over 80% of those eligible have received at least one dose of the vaccine and 68.8% of the county has been fully vaccinated as of May 11, 2022.

The rate of COVID-19 cases in unvaccinated individuals is more the twice that of the rate in those who are vaccinated. According to Public Health, there are 26.6 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated individuals and only 11 cases per 100,000 who were fully vaccinated and boosted.
