A Covid-19 Update: August 25, 2021 PFIZER APPROVED BY FDA

Hello Resource Community!

This week we have some exciting news! The Food & Drug Administration granted full approval to the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on Monday for individuals 16 years and older.

Reminder to everyone to schedule your vaccine appointment if you haven’t yet. As coronavirus caseloads rise statewide, the California Department of Public Health has adopted stricter rules for large indoor events. The new rules will take effect Sept. 20 and will require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test result within 72 hours before indoor events of 1,000 people or more.

Furthermore, third doses (booster shots) of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines are now available for people with compromised immune systems, according to the state. You can find more information here

Back to school is here! What are the Covid-19 requirements?

The state requires all students and staff in K-12 schools to wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status, and all teachers and staff members are required to either submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination or undergo weekly testing.

Hospital Capacity:

It is important to note that county COVID-19-positive hospitalizations increased to 77 from 35.

“When our cases increase, we worry about the capacity of our hospital system, not only to care for COVID-19 patients but all the other patients with critical medical needs as well,” Do-Reynoso told the Board of Supervisors.

On a brighter note,

As of Monday, just over 64% of the county’s eligible population was fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.
